Diving Milford Sound

(Português no fim)
When people asked me before this trip if I was going to dive my answer was ‘maybe once or twice”. When I said that I certainly didn’t have in mind diving in New Zealand but as soon as I saw the Descend diving brochure at our camping site, I new I had to try it ;-). It came as a bit of a surprise because the idea of diving in the fiords hadn’t crossed my mind. So before I had too much time to think about it I was booked for 2 dives with Descend with Simone, Lance and Jackson in charge of taking care of me and 3 more divers. Two of them experienced divers and the 3rd, a girl doing her first ever dive….IN THE FIORDS??!?
I was a bit afraid of how cold it would be but the fear was gone as soon as we started gearing up: try putting on 2 vests and an 8mm semidry suit as well as two layers of foot wear and gloves all this while fighting the always present dark cloud of sand flies around you….you’ll be warm!
The dives were on a mix of coral diving on the outer part of the fiords and rocks and kelp on the inside. A seal, a shark, good black coral and the biggest lobsters I’ve ever seen made for 2 good dives.
Diving was just the best part of a very good day in the fiords. We saw dolphins, seals and penguins, we had a private tour of the fiord, we had dark chocolate, soup, wraps, chips and much more to eat between dives. At the end we went for the mandatory Glacial Facial meaning every diver taking a shower on a glacier waterfall.
Thank you to all the people on Descend, the perfect mix of craziness and love of diving. Well worth it.

Valeu bem a pena!
