Scary spiders in beautiful places!

(Português no fim)
Here we are at our house in front of the sea… The best house we have been so far! But more about the house on a later post. We are enjoying Espiritu Santo a lot, as you might have noticed from everything we have been posting. Although it’s a small island there’s plenty of things to do and see. Unfortunately we can’t do it all, some are not appropriate for toddlers, like the Millennium Cave that we really wanted to go, but it’s impossible for the kids. They offered us to leave them in the village with the locals while we explore the caves, everyone says that it’s safe and they will take very good care of them, but I’m not ready to leave them with strangers.
Our house is just in front of the sea, Pedro sneaks every morning for some SUP (stand up paddle) before breakfast. The kayak is our main mean of transportation, we go for lunch in the nearby islands (the Sunday buffet on Oyster Island is so good), we explore desert islands and go to blue holes on it. We are used to paddle everywhere now. The Matavalu blue hole is about an hour paddling from where we are and the way up there is incredible, it’s more about getting there than the blue hole itself. It was an exercise of self control for me, paddling in the middle of a tropical forest full of spiders and other creatures… but i’ve made it! I have to say I’m much better on my bugs hate thing. Speaking about bugs, we don’t have mobile reception at our house so every time we want internet we have to go to a resort close by, Turtle Bay Lodge, and let me tell you that I prefer not to have internet than going there. Sometimes we really need it to plan/book our next steps and it’s an horrible experience. On the way, there are huge spider webs, in both sides of the path, with the biggest spiders I’ve ever seen. I just grab one of the kids and start running, breathing loudly and with my eyes half closed… We can use the kayak to go there but I don't want to risk it with the laptop. So we have been disconnected from the world!
We get a lot of things locally. Our “neighbours”, a local family, were coming back from the sea with some fish they had just fished and we bought some. Francisco was in charge of taking the scales off LOL. For the fruit  we ask on the local villages for some and they go directly to the trees to get it. It’s just too incredible!
Another big thing for me was the Mount Hope… Although it wasn’t so bad as I was expecting. You drive about 1 hour through the tropical forest until you reach a river with some rapids. It was just us and a guide. The weather was not great and we even caught some rain. It’s a narrow river in the middle of the “jungle” and during 30 minutes you go down the river floating until you reach a cascade. Up through the cascade and a 10 minute walk in the middle of the “jungle” back to the car. It’s so beautiful we highly recommend it, but not with such small kids. They have told us it was ok for them but it’s not. The water is cold and half the way they started to complain they were cold and after that they started to cry and didn't stop until we were back in the car again. We had to carry them the rest of the way, maybe it was better for me, I was so focused in trying to calm them down that I didn't even think of all the creatures around me LOL.
We don’t have many pictures since we are always in the water and the good camera normally stays at home. We use a lot the gopro, but we mainly do videos…
That’s all for today, the Blue Hole and the jungle! More “adventures” on a next post!
Arranjamos muitas coisas localmente.
