More about Santo...

(Português no fim)
Santo (Espiritu Santo Island) we are so gonna miss you! We will miss the powder sand, turquoise waters and friendly turtles of Champagne Beach, the “waves” and walks along the beach in Port Olry, the nice lunches at Lannoc bay… We found Port Olry very interesting, it’s not only a great beach with a nice place to eat, but there’s a village and a french catholic mission right in the sand. You can walk along the beach and see how people live there. At low tide its possible to walk to the island in front, and of course we had to go there!
But what we will miss the most is our perfect house at the sea and the kayak! Kids were always outside playing, collecting “treasures” at the beach was their favourite game. Paddling to Oyster Island to meet friends and have some beers, wonder in the waters searching for desert islands to park the kayak and go for some snorkelling. We were very lucky to be there for the Rodeo, the island’s major yearly event, it was a very entertaining afternoon. Cowboys, horses, bulls… Friends and beer! People were literally hanging from everywhere to see the rodeo. The trees were full of people, every pick-up had people on top, crowds of local people everywhere, not many tourists. Everyone was screaming to cheer up the riders! You realise when you have been too long in a place when you go somewhere and you know a lot of the people there, that’s exactly what happened at the Rodeo LOL
We had a great time and if we had known we would have applied for an extended visa and stayed more time in Santo. It’s the 1st time since we started travelling that we are very sad to leave a place, not even the excitement of a new place compensates for it.
If you ever go and stay on this same house don’t forget to take flour. The recipes for Pizza dough and bread are just too good…
